My husband and I are employed by S. Kidman & Co, one of Australia’s largest and most respected beef producers. We have been with the company since 2011 and currently manage Innamincka Station. We have three boys – aged 7, 5 and 2. Our 2 eldest boys will be attending Port Augusta School of the Air and will be in Year 2 and Reception (first year of primary school).
 
We enjoy doing as many family orientated things on and off station as time allows. including fishing, swimming and exploring the banks of the Cooper Creek.  We encourage our boys to be independent, creative thinkers and have strong values.
 
Innamincka is a 13,500 square kilometre cattle station with an average carrying capacity of 13,000 head. The station currently employs up to 11 people. Innamincka Station is situated on Cooper Creek approximately 5kms from the small Innamincka township.

Requirements
Successful applicants will need to be energetic, self-motivated, flexible, highly organised, have a positive outlook, and most importantly be genuinely interested in teaching children. Tertiary qualifications will be highly regarded.
·         Previous experience in a similar role and experience with School of the Air preferred.
·         Excellent literacy, numeracy and writing skills are essential.
·         A basic working knowledge of computers and proficiency with Microsoft Office™ applications (especially Word®, Excel® and Outlook®) or equivalent.
·         Able to be a positive role model and relate well to children.
·         National Police Clearance certificate.
·         Higher School certificate.
·         Provide First Aid Certificate (Senior First Aid) or willing to complete company training in this area.
·         Current Drivers licence (own vehicle would be an advantage).
·         An appreciation for rural and remote living is highly recommended.

Station life:

The Home Tutor is encouraged to participate in life around the station outside of schooling hours. Living and working on a remote station requires people to have a strong sense of community spirit and teamwork.

This type of lifestyle ideally suits people with a keen interest in the outdoors and who can enjoy and appreciate the naturally stunning beauty of the property itself and surrounding areas.
 
Remuneration
Home Tutors are paid a daily rate according to levels of competency & experience described in the S. Kidman & Co Enterprise Agreement 2013. This document provides the full terms and conditions of employment and may be viewed at www.kidman.com.au. The daily rate ranges from $150 (Level 2 – entry level) up to $190 (Level 4 – experienced).
 
There is a daily deduction for board and keep of $6.00 per day. This charge covers all meals (breakfast, morning/afternoon teas, lunch and dinner), plus accommodation outgoings. It is charged each day that an employee is on the property, irrespective of whether a day is worked or not. Keep for days worked is deducted on a pre-tax basis, keep for days not worked is deducted on an after tax basis.
 
Home Tutors are not paid during school holidays and will often go away at these times; however opportunities for paid work may be available by mutual agreement.

Schoolroom:
The air-conditioned school room is well equipped and has 2 laptop computers with internet access and a telephone. The building is separate from the main house but within the homestead grounds. The bathroom is situated off the main kitchen.

Accommodation:
Accommodation is a well-sized bedroom with ensuite. It has reverse cycle air-conditioning, is comfortably furnished with a double bed, wardrobe and beside cabinet. It also has shared Wi-Fi and a shared fridge in the common area. 
 
You would be required to bring your own bed linen and anything else that would make the space more your own. Smoking is not permitted in any of the buildings. 


Job Description
The Home Tutor’s primary responsibility is to provide educational support and supervision of our 2 eldest boys completing Year 2 and Reception through Port Augusta School of the Air for the 2018 school terms. Duties include:
·         Coordinating & supervising the daily school lessons and curriculum.
·         Planning & maintaining a structured school schedule.
·         Organising & providing materials & equipment needed.
·         Maintaining regular contact with teachers.
·         Encouraging participation in and developing extracurricular activities such as arts & crafts and sport.
·         Attending school activities off station.
·         Ensuring own quarters and laundry facilities are kept clean and tidy.
·         Undertaking alternative duties around the station as required, e.g. light domestic/gardening, helping in the kitchen.

Hours of work:
Hours of work are generally from 7.30am to 5.00pm. Attendance at school camps, workshops and mini-schools etc will also be required as necessary, with flexibility required during these times.

Meals:
Meals are prepared by the Station Cook and served in the staff kitchen/dining room; however, there may be occasions when employees may need to prepare their own meals in the staff kitchen in the absence of the cook. In this situation, employees have full access to food supplies and kitchen facilities.

Mail:
This is delivered to the homestead on Wednesdays.

Telephone:
There is no mobile phone coverage. The staff kitchen phone may be used with a phone card for personal use.

Internet:
There is a designated staff computer with Wi-Fi internet access available in the staff kitchen and also your accommodation.

Transport: 
Having your own transport is strongly recommended. When necessary to attend school functions, the Home Tutor will be transported with the family as room in the vehicle allows. If the Home Tutor is required to use their own vehicle for school functions, they will be reimbursed an appropriate amount per kilometre travelled.
 

First Aid & Working With Children Check:
Home Tutors are required to have or obtain at their commencement of employment their Provide Aid Certificate and a Working with Children check and/or National Police Clearance certificate.

A genuine commitment to stay to the end of the school year is preferred to ensure continuity of the children’s education.
