My Family & Property:

My Family:  We are a busy family with 3 boys aged 8, 5 and 3. The older boys are studying Year 3 and Year 1 through Charleville School of Distance Education. The youngest is super busy and loves to be involved in school room activities when suitable to do so. The boys enjoy a fun and engaging school room with lots of hands on activities. The boys all have a wild imagination they love trucks, dozers, dogs, sport and lego.

Our Property: We are a husband and wife team who own and manage our beef cattle business spread over 84,000 acres in Western Queensland. Our home base is ‘Authoringa’ situated 50km SE of Charleville and ‘Molonga’ is situated west of Charleville. We employ casual staff during busy times.

Station Life:  You are welcome to be a part of our station life. If interested, we will include you. Extra hours outside the school hours are not paid and are just for the fun of it and if you would like to help.

Social Life:  Weekends are your free time; occasionally we may ask you to help out with the boys during peak busy times. We will do our best to include you in social events and introduce you to others in our area. Charleville is a vibrant town with plenty of sport, events, arts and crafts workshops, polocrosse, pony club, camp drafting, fishing etc.

 

Remuneration: Salary Package Valued at $950 (negotiable depending on experience)

We will be employing you through the Wide Bay In Home Care Scheme. We can supply you with information about this upon application.

School Room:

The school room is located in a large, spacious airy room along the western side of the main homestead. The school room currently has a large working table in the centre of the room, on air desk, home tutor desk and large storage area. The boys are to assist in keeping the school room clean and tidy regularly throughout the day. The school room is to be cleaned weekly by the home tutor.

Accommodation:

Fully self-contained air-conditioned cabin located adjacent to the main homestead complex.  All linen is supplied however feel free to use your own. The cabin also has its own television with free to air reception and dvd player. It is expected that it is kept clean and tidy at all times.  No smoking in any of the buildings.  An aerial and patch lead are supplied to assist with mobile phone coverage in the cabin. You are welcome to use the internet in the schoolroom, but it is not to be overused as it is limited and can be very expensive.

Job Description – Home Tutor:

We are currently working with Charleville School of Distance Education on a personalised multi-age program for the students in years 3 and 1, the boys complete all lessons at ‘Authoringa’ 50km SE of Charleville.

Tex – 8 years old studying Year 3

Rhett – 5 years old studying Year 1

Guthrie – 3 years old – love to join in with activities when suitable

Duties: these are a guide and are not limited to.

o   Prepare and organise the weekly program and schoolroom

o   Supervise the boys work and help as required

o   Work closely and communicate openly with base teachers at Charleville SDE on a regular basis

o   Offer a positive and happy manner in the school room to keep the boys motivated and to minimise behavioural problems. The boys are keen learners and love a challenge, but you MUST be organised, motivated and energetic to keep the boys interested, achieving and loving school.

o   The school room is to be displayed in an engaging, colourful, stimulating and tidy environment.

o   Full support for teaching and behaviour management will be offered.  Education is a top priority in our busy lives!

o   Supervise and provide engaging age appropriate activities for the boy’s after school hours. Guthrie loves joining in with these activities.

o   Supervise and support the boys at any school ‘face to face’ function/event for example, camp, workshops, mini school, sports days.

o   Supervise extracurricular activities, transporting to and from town for sporting activities and running errands

o   Skills in IT are essential to facilitate the curriculum in the school room.

o   Assist with domestic duties, meal preparation, cleaning, cooking.

o   Flexibility with school during peak busy times with cattle work.  

o   Flexibility with school to suit your and our social, holiday and family engagements

Hours of work:

o   7.00am – 5.00pm Monday to Friday 

o   Some mornings may require additional preparation.  

o   All preparation for the upcoming week is to be completed prior to the weekend.

Meals:

o   Provide and prepare own meals

o   Meat will be supplied when available

o   At times you will be required to prepare and supervise morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea if parents are not available

Mail:

Mail is delivered to the ‘Authoringa’ homestead on Tuesdays and Fridays, from Charleville. The home tutor is responsible for getting school work ready for post before the mailman arrives.

Transport:

When necessary to attend school functions or take the boys to town for extracurricular activities you will be provided with a station vehicle.

  

First Aid & Working with Children Check:

All employees will be required to have or get as soon as possible at the beginning of employment their Senior First Aid Certificate and be willing to get a working with children’s check.

Other conditions:

This position may include some child care at various busy times. There may be an opportunity to supervise children overnight if we need to go away. This is optional and will be paid in addition to normal wages.
